One enduring legacy of Chinese Americans is their longstanding service to our country. In fact, Chinese in America have served in the U.S. military since the Civil War. More than 20,000 served in World War II. 

Join our distinguished panel as we talk about some of the Chinese American men and women who have served our nation and their great American stories.

Montgomery “Monty” Hom, Founder and Executive Producer of the Chinese American GI Project is an independent producer, filmmaker, a production and historical military specialist, and author. He is a 2022 NEH grant recipient for the project: Dialogues on the Experiences of War.

Connie Yu, a fourth generation Californian, is an author, historian, and board member emeritus of the Chinese Historical Society of America.  She is the author of Chinatown San Jose, USA and co-editor of Voices from the Railroad: Stories by Descendants of Chinese Railroad Workers. She was co-producer of the exhibit "Called to Rise: Chinese Americans in CBI."

Wilem Wong is a retired New York City Police Department (NYPD) Police Sergeant (Special Assignment) with over 21 years of combined creditable service to New York City and New York State. Prior to the NYPD, he served as a Police Officer in the San Francisco Police Department. In his military capacity, he has served over 34 years (Enlisted and Commissioned Service) in the United States Army Reserve with the current rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He is a combat veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan. 

The discussion will be moderated by David Uy, Executive Director of the Chinese American Museum DC.
